Warrior Alex
I found out I was pregnant 5 months after my tubal ligation. Alex was born 2 months premature and only stayed 2 weeks in the NICU. He was all of 4lbs 3oz. Alex was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 10 months old and fights daily for everything we all take for granted. The doctors and speech therapist told us Alex would probably never have the ability to talk but he defeated those odds and now talks. He started with Botox to help control muscle spasms, he did that every 3 months for years. We started our journey at Children's when we did his xrays and they found his right hip never formed, so we decided to do a surgery to build him a hip with bone from his femurs. To do this surgery, Alex had to have a baclofen pump inserted into his belly that goes directly to his brain. Alex will go in today for additional lengthening surgeries. The surgery will last around 4hrs and the hope will be he will be back home in 4-5 days.
Alex is the most kind compassionate caring person I have ever met! He is always worried about others even when he is going through all of this!! I learn so much from this kid!! It might be a lot of work being a special needs parent but it is just as rewarding. I feel everything happens for a reason and Mr. Alex is here to teach us all about life!! You never know what people are dealing with so always choose kindness!! ~ Casey
